Brief introduction of Jinyu River
The word "gold" in "Jinyu" actually indicates the source of the river. In ancient times, people combined the five elements of gold, wood, water, fire and earth with five directions, and this "gold" represented the "west". "Jinyu" actually shows that the river comes from the west, and the source is in the west. For example, the "Inner Jinshui River" in the Imperial Palace is injected from Yuquan Mountain in the western suburbs of Beijing. According to the "Sunxia Old News examination" contains: "White Tiger Water for the Jade River, out of Yuquan Mountain, within the path, out of the capital, note Tonghui River." "
Yuhe, that is, the imperial river, was also called Jinshui River in the Yuan Dynasty. Also because the Jinshui River is shaped like a jade belt, some people also call it the Yushui River.
The main function of the Jinyu River in the Ming and Qing dynasties was to provide water for the court and to protect the city walls, that is, the so-called "Jincheng Tangchi, deep trench and high base". During this period, several major fires extinguished by the palace benefited from the water of the Jinshui River. Today, people are free to come to the Jinyu River, the forbidden place of the former imperial palace, and enjoy the jade-splashing scenery of the fountain in the river.
